Prof. Jianzhong Wu is a Professor of Multi-Vector Energy Systems and Head of Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Cardiff University. He researches on Smart Grid and energy infrastructure (modelling, analysis and optimisation of integrated smart energy supply networks). He has contributed to more than 50 EC, EPSRC and industry funded projects as a Principal Investigator or a Co-Investigator. Besides being a Co-Director of UK Energy Research Centre, he is also a co-Director of EPSRC Supergen Energy Networks Hub, and a co-Principal Investigator of £24.5m WEFO funded FLEXIS project investigating future integrated energy systems. He is a co-investigator of EPSRC project on Multi-Scale Infrastructure Systems Analytics, Active Building Centre, and the Energy Revolution Consortium. He is a co-author of books “Smart Grid: Technology and Applications” (2012, Wiley), “Smart Electricity Distribution Networks” (2017, CRC), and “The Future of Gas Networks: The Role of Gas Networks in a Low Carbon Energy System” (2019, Springer).

He is a Co-Director of INCOSE UK Energy Systems Interest Group, a member of Wales Smart Energy System Group, the Scottish Power Energy Networks Strategic Stakeholder Panel for England and Wales, and a member of CBI and University of Birmingham Energy Policy Commission on Thermal Energy (Heat). He is an Associate Editor of Applied Energy and Deputy Editor-in-Chief of IET Energy System Integration. He is the Director of Applied Energy International UNiLAB on Synergies between Energy Networks.

Jianzhong leads the UKERC Cross-cutting Theme on Energy Systems for Heat.
