Nicola Beaumont

Nicola Beaumont is a senior interdisciplinary scientist specialising in quantification and valuation of marine ecosystem services, and translating complex natural science into terms which are meaningful in a social and economic context.  Nicola has led a wide variety of interdisciplinary projects and was the lead economist for marine and coastal margins on the UK National Ecosystem Assessment. She currently acts as PI on the INTERREG funded Valmer project “Assessing and valuing marine ecosystems”; the EU funded Policy-oriented marine Environmental Research in the Southern EUropean Seas (PERSEUS); in addition to leading PML’s socio-economic contribution to the Marine Management Organisation Framework agreement.  Nicola sits on a number of international and national committees, covering both academic and policy angles, for example she is the Marine Biome Expert Group Lead for the International Ecosystem Services Partnership, a member of Marine Renewable Energy Knowledge Exchange NERC Advisory Council, and also a member of the Productive Seas Evidence Group (PSEG) which reports to the Ministerial Marine Science Group.
