Mobilising the response to Electric Vehicle growth in the UK
9:30 AM - 12:00 PM, 18 July 2018
Energy Systems Catapult , Cannon House 18 The Priory Queensway Birmingham ,B4 6BN, United Kingdom
The growth of electric vehicles (EVs) continues to be a hot topic. Both the transport and energy industries are in agreement that EVs represent the decarbonisation of the future transport system. However, challenges lie in ensuring that the necessary infrastructure and technology is in place to cope with the inevitable increased demand on the network.
This special event will launch the Energy Systems Catapult's new report: 'Preparing UK Electricity Networks for Electric Vehicles'. Commissioned by National Grid, it highlight the effects of EV uptake on the electricity grid and recommends how to avoid network capacity constraints that would impede the roll out of EVs.
Held at Energy Systems Catapult’s innovation hub in central Birmingham, join the event to participate in a collaborative debate on the challenges and implications for the supporting electric grid infrastructure, including the transmission and distribution networks. To be explored:
- Transmission System Operators (TSO) perspective on EV network challenges.
- Where Network Operators are in their response to the EV uptake growth.
- The existing gaps for the Network Operators to respond to EV growth and changes in consumer requirements.
- How Network Operators should respond to Government priorities and how to ensure a consistent and coherent position.
