Lost in transition: is energy efficiency speaking the right language to policymakers?

The Solutions Workshop hosted by UKERC at the ECEEE Summer Study aims to address the disconnect between the academic research and evidence-base in energy efficiency and what seems to be a lack of uptake in the decision-making world. The lack of targets for efficiency at the EU level and the lack of priority for energy efficiency in many national policies leaves many that work in this area scratching their heads. Cost-effectiveness, low-hanging fruit—none of that resonates. Is this a PR problem or are there too many competing concerns? Is it due to energy efficiency being invisible and therefore not sexy? Are researchers providing information that is useful to decision-makers or getting hung up in the details? Or are there major gaps in the evidence?

There will be a roundtable from government, industry and academia facilitated by Joanne Wade of the Association for the Conservation of Energy. Active participation from workshop attendees is encouraged.  This workshop coincides with the release of UKERC’s most recent Technology & Policy Assessment Report entitled Energy Efficiency Evaluation: The evidence for real energy savings from energy efficiency programmes in the household sector; copies will be available at the event. And, yes, we will have jellybeans.

You will need to be registered for the ECEEE Summer Study, set for 1-6 June 2015 at Club Belambra Les Criques, Presqu’île de Giens, Toulon/Hyères, France to attend the event. Please click here to register.
