Security of supply in the British electricity system

This coming winter marks a transitional year in the provision of security of supply. It is the final one during which Supplementary Balancing Reserve (SBR) will be used to meet the reliability standard, and the first during which Capacity Market obligations are used, albeit to a small degree. However, the security of supply seems well within the required standard and the probability that consumers will be disconnected due to a lack of generation capacity in Britain remains small.
