Previous work on offshore multi-terminal HVDC networks suggests that they should be both feasible and beneficial. However, a number of engineering questions remain to be resolved and will be studied in this project. The issues considered will include interaction of an offshore DC grid with the onshore AC system and development of a set of simple grid design rules taking into account cost and the availability of power transfer paths. In addition, the project will draw upon associated activities on regulatory aspects of offshore grids that extend across multiple jurisdictions.
