This Working Paper is an output from the UK Energy Research Centre (UKERC) Research Fund project ‘Carbon Capture and Storage: Realising the potential?’ The paper forms part of Work Package 3 (‘Develop and analyse CCS pathways’) of the UKERC project, and specifically, Task 5 ‘Analyse the UK investment climate’.

The objectives are to: examine the current investment climate in the UK power sector; understand the range of CCS variants; explain how the UK policy context bears upon CCS; assess the impact on perceived risk and return for CCS investors; and draw conclusions about what this means for CCS ‘financeability’ and the conditions necessary for successful large-scale deployment of CCS by 2030.
