 UKERC Research Fund

The Research Councils have made an award for a second phase of UKERC running from May 2009 – April 2014. In Phase II, around 40% of UKERC's total research resource will be allocated through a Research Fund.

Under this arrangement, specific projects will be offered, on a competitive basis, to the wider research community. The aims of the Research Fund are:

  • to bring a wider range of researchers and disciplines into UKERC's research programme
  • to ensure that the best science is used to deliver the programme
  • to allow the programme to develop flexibly in the light of new scientific insights or external developments

The Research Fund supports work that is an integral part of the overall Research Programme and is managed by a Research Committee.

UKERC is therefore issuing targeted Calls for Proposals for work which will form part of its programme rather than general, responsive mode type calls within the broad energy field. Successful bidders are considered full members of the UKERC consortium while they are engaged in projects.

The total value of the Research Fund is £4.5m (valued at 80% of Full Economic Cost). We will issue three Calls for Proposals during UKERC Phase II.

We would expect individual research projects to run from between one and two years or, exceptionally, up to three years. However, all projects must be completed by the end of UKERC Phase II on 30 April 2014. Consortium bids will be considered. Bidders must be eligible to hold Research Council awards.
