Energy Supply

Theme Leader: Professor Nick Jenkins,

Cardiff University

Introduction

The team is investigating UK energy supply to 2050, taking into account radical developments being put in place from 2020 onwards. We will investigate options for longer term decarbonisation, while recognising the long life-time of energy assets and the need for a smooth trajectory of change.

Priorities for the Energy Supply theme, includes analyses of technical and regulatory issues in facilitating mass demand side participation through the deployment of smart meters and the challenging prospect of decarbonising the UK heat sector.

Research Projects

The Energy Supply team is currently working on five projects. The main projects are:

Smart Metering and Demand Side Participation

Key Contacts: Nick Jenkins, Modassar Chaudry (Cardiff University)

Accelerating the deployment of Renewable Heat

Key contacts: Robert Sansom (Imperial College, London); Audrius Bagdanavicius, Modassar Chaudry (Cardiff University)

Energy Security, Supplies of Gas

Further details of the Research projects under Energy supply theme can be found at Research Projects page.

Meet the team

During UKERC Phase I (April 2004 - April 2009), the Energy Supply Theme worked with other themes including Future Sources of Energy, Energy Infrastructure and Supply and Materials for Advanced Energy Systems.  For all UKERC research outputs, see the Publications Catalogue
