Offshore Wind Power Costs
An assessment of historical and future cost estimates and trajectories. This project will consider the historical context of early offshore wind cost estimates (from c. 2000 onwards) and the cost expectations of most observers in the early 2000s, and relate them to the engineering and learning literature.
The project will investigate the reasons for the cost escalations that began with round 2 of UK offshore wind development and assess the more recent estimates which look out to around 2015. It will examine the longer run potential for costs to return to earlier predicted trends and seek to answer the question as to what may happen to offshore wind costs beyond 2015.
The TPA approach to this project is set out in the following scoping note.
Working Papers and presentations will be posted here as they become available.
