Previous Experience
At the core of Jennifer’s varied career path has been an emphasis on action learning and engagement in service of environmental and social justice concerns. She began her professional career working for the Gwich’in Renewable Resources Board in Inuvik, Arctic Canada, contributing to natural resources co-management and participatory community decision-making. The lessons learned from community leaders and Elders proved to be invaluable and transformational.
At UNEP Nairobi, she supported a participatory publication with children and youth to convey young peoples’ feelings of their environment. She continued with environmental engagement in Canada, where she managed an international climate change knowledge network and a participatory research project that documented the impacts of climate change on the Inuvialuit community of Sachs Harbour. In 2002 she moved on to work with One Sky, a small action-oriented NGO that has a holistic approach to community development and human security. Based in Nigeria for close to 3 years, she coordinated an environmental capacity development project with local NGOs in the Cross River Bioregion of Cross River State.
Jennifer arrived in the UK in 2005 and spent two years working with an inspiring team at the Centre for the Study of Global Governance at LSE supporting the research centre before transferring to the UKERC Meeting Place at the Environmental Change Institute in Oxford.
