Applications are invited for a Project Manager to work in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Imperial College London based at the South Kensington Campus. You will have a lead role in the operational management of a new £3M project sponsored by DECC on novel Carbon Capture Fluids and funded by Carbon Clean Solutions.
You should have a first degree in Engineering or Physical Sciences and significant experience in technical project management. Experience of working in the power, oil & gas, chemical or other related industries would be especially useful. You must be able and willing to undertake a wide variety of relevant tasks, so a flexible working approach is essential. You will have the ability to prioritise workloads and use your initiative.
Your duties will include creating and executing project work plans and revising them as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements. This will include identifying resources needed and assigning individual responsibilities to the Project team.

Scottish Carbon Capture & Storage are seeking to appoint a Business Development Executive. SCCS delivers world-class research and knowledge exchange between academia and industry to facilitate the commercial deployment of carbon capture and storage (CCS). Through their extensive academic network they access a wide range of researchers and state-of-the-art facilities to provide technical support across the full CCS chain. The primary purpose of this post is to support the development and delivery of significant new funding for SCCS through both research grants and collaborative industrial research contracts. The role will primarily be focussed on geoscience, regulatory, socio-technical and public perception research associated with CCS, with universities and research organisations across Scotland. Candidates may also be required work with other colleagues to assist in the development of projects across the CCS chain including carbon capture, transport, monitoring and utilisation. Candidates should preferably be educated to post-graduate level or equivalent and have good experience of business development or related work between academia and industry. The Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking (FCH JU) is organizing a selection procedure for the recruitment of one Knowledge Management and Policy Officer in the Programme Unit. The Knowledge Management and Policy Officer shall be responsible for the management of all FCH JU project results and deliverables towards a consolidated and comprehensive technical summary clarifying the progress and achievements of the FCH JU program in relation to the state of the art (planning phase MAIP and AIP) and to other geographical areas (benchmarking) and use this information to help steer existing policies and contribute to new policy initiatives. A position exists for a Post-Doctoral Research Associate in land use modelling within the Cambridge Centre for Climate Change Mitigation Research (4CMR), to work as part of a project on integrated climate impacts assessment, funded by the Three Guineas Trust.
The aim of this post is to incorporate a model of land use and land use change into an integrated climate impacts assessment framework, to gain further understanding of the role of land use in climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies.
The successful candidate will have a PhD in a relevant discipline, (e.g. geography, economics, agriculture, agronomy, engineering), and will have strong numerical modelling skills, as well as a knowledge of human land use activities and related economics, and of terrestrial ecosystem processes. Familiarity with a high level programming language, such as FORTRAN or C, would be helpful. Experience of working with large scale computational models, ideally land use models, would be advantageous.

Applications are invited for the next round of University of Cambridge / Wellcome Trust Senior Internships
The scheme is aimed at suitably qualified post-doctoral candidates with backgrounds in the physical sciences (incl. engineering, mathematics and computer sciences) who wish to gain experience in the application of their research to solve problems in the basic biological and biomedical sciences.
Research projects must fall within the broad remit of the Wellcome Trust and the research must be undertaken in laboratories within the School of Biological Sciences or the School of Clinical Medicine. In exceptional circumstances candidates with a background in the life sciences wishing to gain experience working in the physical sciences may also be considered, but additional restrictions apply.
The internships are intended to provide opportunities for award holders to gain experience in applying biological approaches, and/or apply novel theoretical or experimental techniques from the physical sciences to address biological problems. In addition, it is hoped that this scheme will foster longer-term collaborations between Principal Investigators from the physical and life sciences disciplines within the University of Cambridge.

This PhD Studentship ‘Low carbon generation: social welfare impact of CHP installations at local level’ is funded by WPD, the electricity distribution network operator for the Midlands, South Wales and the South West. The research project on the welfare impact of CHP installations is part of a collaborative FLEXDGRID research project (between WPD and the University of Warwick), which investigates new solutions to accommodate more low carbon generation across the city of Birmingham. The FLEXDGRID project is one of several projects on the role of the electricity network in a low carbon energy system, undertaken by WPD with the support of Ofgem’s Low Carbon Network Fund. The project will investigate technical options which will help support the timely and cost-effective integration of CHP generation with the aim of making a major contribution to reaching UK’s carbon emissions reduction targets in a cost effective way. The doctoral research work will contribute to socio-economic component of the project by investigating the effects of changes in overall expenditure and tariff structure resulting from the deployment of CHP generation in Birmingham. The project will evaluate the impact of this technology on different social and income groups, with a particular focus on the alleviation of fuel poverty in relatively deprived areas of the city. The research will be based on an analysis of data from an extensive survey of residential energy consumers, to be undertaken with the support of WPD and Birmingham City Council. The Power Networks Demonstration Centre (PNDC) based at Cumbernauld is a brand new collaborative £12M venture by the University of Strathclyde’s highly rated Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering which aims to provide members with diverse scientific and technical expertise and to execute research, development, demonstration projects and programs. Building the next generation of active power delivery networks requires a mix of new technology, existing technology to be applied in new ways, optimisation of existing asset infrastructure and changes in operating practices by electrical utilities. The PNDC is seeking to expand its research and development team which focusses on the design, development and maintenance of web and mobile tools/applications for the electricity industry. The Knowledge Exchange Associate/Assistant will assist with the delivery of expected results, generation of growth and the development of a reputation for excellence, through the delivery of research efforts in software development to include a wide range of projects ranging from image and data analysis to cybersecurity.
