UKERC’s Interdisciplinary Postgraduate Energy Research Studentships give talented students the opportunity to undertake research and training which will foster interdisciplinary research skills, leading to the award of a PhD or equivalent qualification.

The successful candidates are Darrell Smith (University of Cumbria) and Metkel Yebiyo (London South Bank University).

UKERC Research Director Professor Jim Skea said: “To contribute to UKERC’s interdisciplinary approach, students who apply for our studentships must have a solid grounding in and understanding of more than one discipline.

“We are very pleased to welcome Darrell and Metkel to the UKERC family and I am sure, in due course, they will make the same outstanding contribution that we are starting to see in the current crop of PhD dissertations being produced.”

Since its creation in 2004, UKERC has awarded 35 studentships, with prospective students applying on an individual basis supported by their institution.
