IIASA’s Energy Program (ENE) focuses on the analysis of long-term interactions between energy, development, and the environment. The Program’s central research objective is to provide overarching scientific and strategic analysis for improving understanding of future energy transitions. Principal research activities include energy-economic and integrated assessment modeling as well as scenario development for the investigation of energy system dynamics, including endogenous technological change, evolution of the energy supply and energy service sectors, the integration of uncertainty and risk assessments into decision making, and the assessment of energy investment and financial mechanism for sustainable energy transitions. The University of Surrey are seeking to recruit a highly-motivated and experienced post-doctoral researcher with substantial expertise in environmental sustainability and a strong track record of conducting social research. This post is a unique opportunity to take a leading role in a novel and exciting initiative on sustainable lifestyles reporting directly to UK policymakers. Combining day-to-day research coordination with internal and external liaison activities, s/he will also develop and conduct a key research project exploring how evidence is provided to and used by government. In addition, s/he will provide vital input to a major longitudinal qualitative household study.

The post will be based in the Centre for Environmental Strategy, an internationally-acclaimed centre of excellence on sustainable development. It takes a multi-disciplinary approach to the analysis of sustainable systems, to develop action-oriented, policy-relevant responses to long-term environmental and social issues.

This Lecturer position provides a unique opportunity to participate in the development of the Doctoral Training Centre (DTC) in Energy and the Build Environment, in shaping postgraduate education across UCL, and in the expansion of the UCL Energy Institute. The Lecturer will be responsible for the development and management of the DTC in Energy Demand Reduction and the Built Environment. The post holder will also be expected to work with the eight other UCL Centres for Doctoral Training as well as with other cross faculty initiatives such as UCL's Grand Challenges. A determination to help build the infrastructure of research is essential in order to carry forward the vision and goals of the DTC and to help achieve the UK's targets for carbon reduction.
