UKERC Energy Summer School 2008

SolarNominations are now CLOSED for UKERC's fourth annual Energy Summer School that will take place from 23rd to 27th June at Parkstead House in London.

Please note that the course has been oversubscribed. Successful applicants will be notified very soon.

Elegibility: First and second year PhD research students (or their equivalent outside the UK) from universities or similar institutions whether in the UK or elsewhere.

3rd year students will be considered only if places are available.

We have increased the scope and size of this year's School, with 100 places available for UK and international students

The course has been specifically designed to give relevant first and second year PhD students (or their equivalent status outside the UK) an understanding of the broader issues of energy research in the UK and beyond.

The 4th UKERC Summer School will have a special international flavour as we have reserved 50 places for non-UK students from key universities and research centres worldwide.

During the week-long course, students will:

  • examine the drivers behind current energy policy.

  • review the current portfolio of UK research programmes and understand future plans.

  • understand the relevance of energy research to industry.

  • be involved in high level debate on energy research priorities in a number of key research areas, from demand reduction to future sources of energy.

  • be presented with a number of contrasting international perspectives on energy.

  • gain a better understanding of the worldwide energy landscape and drivers for the initiatives that are being carried out at international level.

  • have the opportunity to network with key academic, business and Government energy contacts.

  • research, develop and deliver a presentation to the UKERC assembly, including external company and government delegates, addressing real challenges in energy research.

Comments from 2007 Summer School students:

"The broad range of talks was excellent for learning where my research fits into the bigger picture "

"Talks were interesting and informative, training provided was valuable and the course organisation was excellent ."  "I was really impressed by how you managed to put together a programme that was intensive, 'stretching' and rewarding but never tiresome, crammed up or boring "
