UKERC Co-Director Paul Ekins Among Top 100 Environmentalists in Britain
UKERC Energy Systems and Modelling co-director and professor of Energy and Environment Policy at King's College London, Paul Ekins, has been named among the 100 UK top environmentalists, according to a list released on 19th October by the Independent on Sunday.
Paul comes 51st on the list, after names like Bob Watson, Chief Scientist at Defra, polar scientist Peter Wadhams and Lord Stern. The first on the list is activist John Stewart.
The Independent on Sunday highlights Professor Ekins work to set up a Green Fiscal Commission to examine green taxes and states that he remains "an activist at heart".
Paul Ekins, UK Energy Research Centre co-director said:
"It has been clear to me for some time that humanity will be in big trouble if it doesn't re-think and thoroughly reform its relationship with the environment and use of natural resources, and the time-window for this is getting increasingly narrow. If such lists as that in the IoS help to get that message across then they are to be welcomed. For my part, I find the UKERC a very congenial context for some of the hard thinking, writing and policy analysis on energy that is required to make this aspect of the human-environment interaction less dysfunctional".
