Pecha Kucha Evening
On the evening of 12th March, six researchers from across the network presented their research at the latest in a series of Pecha Kucha evenings staged by the Association for British Science Writers (ABSW).
Pecha Kucha is a presentation style where 20 slides are shown for 20 seconds each, meaning that the presenter has only 6 minutes 40 seconds in which to ‘tell their story’. This means that presenters have to think very carefully about what they wish to say in the short time allotted to them.
The event was held at City University, Islington and had the theme of ‘Energy’. The speakers were:
• Conaill Soraghan, University of Strathclyde - why wind turbines could look very different offshore
• Philippa Usher, University of Leeds - growing biofuel using algae
• Wasim Bhatti, Loughborough University - integration of hydrogen fuel cells into unmanned aerial vehicles
• Tom Demetriades, University of Nottingham - transport for Carbon Capture and Storage
• Mike Fell, University College London - children’s role in home energy use
• Ruth Bush, University of Leeds - UK District heating; what are we waiting for?
The presentations were attended by a mixed audience of interested members of the public and members of the ABSW and were followed by a trip to the local pub where the audience had the chance to network and ask any follow up questions of the presenters.
