UKERC Energy Summer School 2009
Become part of a community of next generation interdisciplinary energy researchers

Nominations are now CLOSED for UKERC's fifth annual Energy Summer School that will take place from 5th to 10th July at the University of Sussex, Brighton.
Eligibility: First and second year PhD research students (or their equivalent outside the UK) from universities or similar institutions whether in the UK or elsewhere.
3rd year students will be considered only if places are available.
Building on last year's Summer School success we are now offering 100 places available for UK and international students.
This internationally recognised course has been specifically designed to give first and second year PhD students an understanding of the broader issues relevant to energy research. We welcome applications from those engaged in energy-related research including technical, physical, social, economic, environmental and business aspects of energy and energy systems.
The 5th UKERC Summer School will continue to have the special international flavour that it is known for as we have reserved 50 places for non-UK students from key universities and research centres worldwide.
There is no charge to registered research students for the School. UKERC will provide accommodation and all meals and materials for activities.
During the week-long course, students will
Examine the drivers behind current energy policy
Understand the relevance of energy research to industry and markets
Be involved in high level debate on energy research priorities in a number of key research areas, from demand reduction to future sources of energy
Be presented with a number of contrasting international perspectives on energy
Have the opportunity to network with key academic, business and Government energy contacts
Research and develop a presentation to the UK Energy Research Centre in response to real-life challenges in energy research
Develop and practice professional skills in communication and engagement
Comments from 2008 Summer School students:

"Good mix of information and personal development. Tutors were great! The focus on collaborating and networking was excellent and very useful"
|
"Everything was useful. Especially the consulting tasks- preparations, hints, the process together with group and the problem solving strategies" |
"There are so many good things I am not sure I have enough paper. I really liked the break out sessions, the team work, the tutors, the social activities (all of them) and the technical content". |
