Dr. Weston, who will officially start on 18 June, is a chemistry graduate whose PhD work at Imperial College and Edinburgh University focused on solid-oxide fuel cells.
He joins UKERC from the University of the Highlands and Islands, where he currently heads the energy and resource group, focusing on energy research capacity and network building across the academic and industrial sectors, as well as building European links and fundraising.  Dr. Weston has considerable commercial experience, having worked for several research and technology companies, including both Qinetiq and ITI Energy.
Dr. Weston takes over from Jeff Hardy who left UKERC earlier this year to take on the role of Senior Manager, Sustainable Development at energy regulator Ofgem.
Commenting on Dr. Weston’s appointment, Professor John Loughhead FREng FCGI OBE, Executive Director of UKERC, says: I am extremely pleased that Mike has decided to join the UKERC HQ team. His knowledge of current energy research activity and his professional experience will be invaluable to us, and I’m sure he will play a major role for UKERC in the future. We are all looking forward to working with him and know he will soon be familiar face to our many stakeholders’.
Ends.
